GREG NORMAN COURSE Designed by the legendary “Great White Shark,” this Greg Norman golf course incorporates the undulations of its setting along the Potomac River. The 7,332-yard par-72 golf course winds through a mature hardwood forest and beside rocky outcroppings. Those natural elements combine with historic sites on the 3rd and 4th holes to form the course’s distinct character using Norman’s “Least Disturbance Approach” to design. Capable of hosting championship competition, the Greg Norman Course remains enjoyable for everyday golfers, with tees that fit a multitude of skill levels – including the memorable “island tees” on the par-4, first hole. Players will be challenged on a particularly demanding four-hole stretch dubbed “the hardest mile in golf” by Norman himself. Upon its opening in 2005, Golf Magazine named this course one of the “Top 10 New Courses You Can Play.” You can click on a hole number for more information below. Avoid the left side hazard. A right-center tee shot will leave the best angle to this elevated green. A 200-yard tee shot should leave you a short to mid-iron approach. Par 4 Handicap Men: 7 Women: ~ Tees 413 343 335 299 212 X With hazards down both sides, finding the fairway is the key to any chance of getting to the putting surface on your approach. Left-center of the green is a great shot avoiding the right hazard. Par 4 Handicap Men: 9 Women: ~ Tees 427 401 385 352 342 X A great risk/reward par 4 for the big hitters, but a misplaced tee shot makes bogey or worse a reality. The safe play is 200 yards off the tee with a wedge to the appropriate area of the green. Pin hunters beware, missing the green leaves no easy up-and-down. Par 4 Handicap Men: 13 Women: ~ Tees 331 298 284 261 216 X As the #1 handicap, this hole requires length and accuracy. Avoid the right side with a left-center tee shot. A very straight and long layup shot is needed to give you the most manageable approach shot to a large and well-guarded green. Par 5 Handicap Men: 1 Women: ~ Tees 605 584 584 536 456 X Probably the hardest tee shot on the course! Don’t be short or left. A right-center tee shot is best and par is a great score. Par 3 Handicap Men: 15 Women: ~ Tees 184 173 160 126 112 X A straightforward tee shot, anything in the fairway is good. On the approach shot don’t be short—bunkers and hazard guard the front of the green. Par 4 Handicap Men: 5 Women: ~ Tees 408 394 362 354 322 X A very intimidating tee shot with water guarding the entire right side. Aim towards the far fairway bunker and make a confident swing. From the fairway, a shot to the left center of the green is prudent to avoid the water. Par 4 Handicap Men: 11 Women: ~ Tees 442 422 392 384 365 X Off the tee, it is time to let the Big Dog eat on this monster hole. Likewise, your second shot needs to be as close to the green as possible for the best chance to hit this very small, elevated target. Middle of the green in three is great and par is a good score. Par 5 Handicap Men: 3 Women: ~ Tees 663 640 610 572 520 X This beautiful water hole is the signature par 3. It is a very large multitiered green. If you are not within 20 feet of the hole it may be a tough 2 putt. Par 3 Handicap Men: 17 Women: ~ Tees 247 222 171 148 133 X This is the start of a tough three-hole stretch. Avoid the left side of the fairway with a right-center tee shot to give the best angle into the hole. Once in the fairway, be safe with the approach shot and avoid a tough up-and-down from the bunkers. Par 4 Handicap Men: 6 Women: ~ Tees 421 409 379 365 308 X A narrow-driving hole. Laying back short of the fairway bunkers leaves a long shot into an uphill shallow green. On the approach shot, take a bit more club to avoid the hazard short of the green. Par 4 Handicap Men: 12 Women: ~ Tees 473 437 398 361 272 X A huge tee shot is not required on this par 5, but accuracy is essential. Something in the fairway about 220 yards off the tee, helps set up a straight-forward lay-up with a long iron to clear the hazard and leave a short iron or wedge into the two-tiered green. Be on the correct tier for a chance at birdie. Par 5 Handicap Men: 10 Women: ~ Tees 554 536 520 479 445 X A straightforward par 3 with a multi-tiered green and slightly uphill. Finding the correct tier of the green typically produces a good score. Par 3 Handicap Men: 16 Women: ~ Tees 176 150 138 123 101 X Another driveable par 4 for the big hitters. The approach shot here is difficult—with a small and undulating green. Par 4 Handicap Men: 14 Women: ~ Tees 331 314 302 265 235 X Despite a big fairway, a tough approach shot will test even the longest hitters. A slightly uphill, well-guarded green favors a longer shot. Par 4 Handicap Men: 4 Women: ~ Tees 429 421 396 380 355 X This is an extremely difficult bottleneck par 4. Hazard is both right and left off of the tee and the approach shot has to be very precise to hit the green. Par will earn you boasting rights. Par 4 Handicap Men: 2 Women: ~ Tees 434 421 398 380 358 X A medium-length par 3 with hazard left. The green is multi-tiered—being on the correct tier opens the door to par or birdie. Par 3 Handicap Men: 18 Women: ~ Tees 208 184 162 135 117 X A great finishing hole with a very generous fairway. Hazard down the entire right side—long hitters have a chance to get home in 2. Otherwise, play for position, favoring a good angle and distance on the left side of the fairway. Knock it tight and finish strong. Par 5 Handicap Men: 8 Women: ~ Tees 586 552 538 529 502
